A&W Rootbeer Today I was in downtown and decided to grab a bite to eat before a meeting. So I head up to Steven's Ave. and start walking down trying to find a place to eat. I see two guys standing outside looking into an A&W, and at first glance I am not interested and pass by. I was thinking I could do better. But I decide to cut down the time and go to A&W. I walk inside and look through the menu. Bright lights of supposedly delicious looking food. Then I start thinking about what's in that food, all those fats, preservatives and what not. I am sort of disgusted, but not enough to not order. So I order a chicken sandwich combo. She asks me what I want to drink, and before I can say anything she decides for me, and says A&W ... or... So I tell her that's what I want, what's interesting is I am being conditioned before I even have time to think. It's A&W and what they are known for is their root beer. She pours the root beer and hands it to me. As I am drinking it, I start thinking about all the sugar and sodium benzoate in it, an ingredient known to cause cancer. I sit down and keep sipping the drink. As I am sitting there I start looking around at all of the people. They are all over weight, save one Asian guy.
Mozza burger @ A&W
I start thinking about our society and how we got here. I think about the business decisions that lead to the creation of this place, and the social significance of sharing food with your family and friends. As I am thinking of this I feel utterly disgusted because I know this isn't a place that I really want to be, and if everyone else knew what they were eating and how their entire lives were being influenced by this single event and future events like this one, they would simply get up and leave. At that moment the waitress tells me that my food is ready, so I take it from her, pull out the chicken sandwhich and take as many bites as it takes to finish. I don't finish my drinks and eat only a few of the fries. I get rid of all of it and vow never to step my foot in one of these places again. I think there are very few fast food restaurants that are decent, I would classify Subway as one of them, but the vast majority are like opium dens serving addicts that they've created. It's immoral and unworthy of a time which prides itself on progress. It's in fact like taking 10 steps back for no good reason.
The worst part is this isn't a localized phenomenon, it's global. The pictures on the left is from some Japanese guy who posted it on Flickr. McDonalds is everywhere. In other news, criminality is correlated with bad nutrition.

Dude yeah right
A&W rocks you bastard. Their root beer's t the best... Why the hell would you criticize them like that?
Sorry
I am sorry JQ, but I simply don't agree A&W is absolutely disgusting and I bet you're one of those out of shape people that eats there often. I would suggest that you go out and get some exercise and stop eating there. Thanks for your comment.
